A valley of nature and prehistory
With its majestic cave with two entrances, the Pollera Cave, in the Rio della Valle locality, at the contact between the Finale Stone and the older rock substrate, is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Finale area, with numerous finds dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The trail begins at the Cianassi, from where one continues to Località San Carlo; immediately after the small abandoned chapel, at the fork, one takes the right-hand path towards the Pollera and continues to the next fork where one continues to the left, then at the last fork one takes the right-hand branch that, with a steep ascent, leads to the vast cave cavity. La Pollera is one of the most important karstic cavities in the Finale area, in which several archaeological excavations have uncovered evidence of the Neolithic period (Impressed Ceramics Culture 5800-5000 B.C. circa). After visiting the cave, we retrace our steps to return to the junction near the chapel of San Carlo; this time we take the path to the left that leads to Pian Marino, a hollow of karstic origin. When you reach the vast meadow, cross it, keeping to the left, to the path that begins to climb towards the Cava di Pian Marino (Pian Marino Quarry). Here, a rapid ascent leads to the clearing of the old Cava di Pian Marino. From here, return back along the same path.
