From Calice to the Pleiadi ridge
Rocchera di Rialto, with its scenic rocky ridge, overlooks the valley of the Carbuta stream; at the end of the fairly demanding route, you can take a break in the picnic area equipped with tables. The hike starts from the center of Calice: from the square opposite the ice cream shop, next to a wayside shrine, take the uphill Via Inomonte. At an 18th century manor house (Villa Cappellini), the road becomes concrete (very steep) and then a mule track. Look for the signpost with 3 red dots. There are some groups of houses (reached by back roads) and a ruined villa, belonging to a noblewoman.
A flat stretch of trail leads to "Crocetta" where you can find another a wayside shrine: here, ignoring the mule track on the left leading to Berea (contrada di Vene), keep walking along the ridge. Other than a few short stretches, you will stay on it for the rest of the hike.
Between pine trees and heaths, several rocky hills seem to give you the feeling of having reached the summit... until you get to a sign, which illustrates the local flora, and reveals a narrow track that reaches the actual summit where, half hidden by the vegetation, there is a little stone house and a cross dating back to 1900.
Once back at the sign, in the back-to-back rocky outcrops, look for a group of cupels, arranged to portray the Pleiadi (a star cluster in the Taurus constellation). The descent soon takes you to a picnic area in the woods.
