Medieval monuments in the valleys
In the silence of the Valle di Perti, in a landscape with ancient traces of cultivation and terracing, among rural houses and ancient churches, we visit some fundamental monuments of the archaeology and history of Finale, including the Byzantine castle of Sant'Antonino di Perti. From the Church of S. Eusebio, continue along the tarmac road until you pass the Church of the 5 Campanili and the Chapel of S. Benedetto and arrive at the locality of 'Case Valle'. After crossing the houses, take the path leading to S. Antonino that quickly climbs the slope. At the crossroads, take the path to the right and you will soon reach the Castrum Perticae or castle of S. Antonino. This castle is located on a steep rise in the Finale hinterland, between the Aquila Valley to the east and the Perti Valley to the west, and during the Byzantine domination in Liguria it was fortified with two long curtain walls, interspersed with rectangular towers. Slightly higher up is the medieval Church of S. Antonino, which, with its suggestive crypt and stone walls of Finale, represents an example of Romanesque architecture immersed in the Mediterranean maquis. From here, one returns back along the same path to Perti Alta.
