The Trail of the Marchesato takes place on the Finale trail named 'Ermano Fossati' in memory of the Expert Foreman of the Finale Ligure Detachment, who died in 2010 in the line of duty while he was rendering aid in an accident on the Melogno Pass. The Trail is in his memory, as is the path taken in the race.
The Trail del Marchesato is a competitive Trail Running event (running in the trails) that covers part of the Ermano Fossati trail. It usually takes place on the first Sunday in March and covers a technical route of three different types:
60 km and 3000 metres D+38 km and 2200 metres D+16 km and 1000 metres D+There is also the possibility of participating in the 7 km Walking walk as a group.
The (limestone) area in question has for years been recognised as one of the most beautiful sites in Italy for 'extreme' outdoor activities such as sport climbing, freeriding and downhill.
The route has been scrupulously designed to bring together all the characteristics of mountain running and all the most characteristic corners of the area: steep and nervous climbs, technical descents, fixed-rope passages and an unprecedented passage in a cave (but there will be three caves), with the fantastic final passage inside the medieval castle of Finalborgo.
A true sky running on the sea in the fabulous and magical "playground" of the Finalese area, where technical trails, limestone cliffs, caves and sea views continuously intersect.
For runners of all levels, it will be a small sporting journey into the history and culture of an ancient and glorious territory.
